About Our Church
The Old Stone Church is made up of ordinary people who believe that we can be better indivduals, family, and community members by living a Christ-centered life. While personal faith is vital, we know that the strength of Christian togetherness is needed to grow and meet the varied needs of the world that God has given us.
We invite you to join us the journey to explore God's presence in your life, to understand the parables and meaning of Jesus Christ, to minister to a world in need, and to find peace and hope.
Together we:
Proclaim Christ. Since 1838, the Old Stone Church (First Congregational United Church of Christ) has served the spiritual needs of the community. Through history, we've faced different problems but always met them with the same enduring faith.
Develop faith. Worship in a relaxed, traditional format. All are welcome. Come as you are to explore God's presence in your life, to understand the meaning of Jesus, to minister to a world in need, and to find peace and hope. Young or old, long faith journey or just starting out, we invite you to come.
Inspire service. We encourage people to serve Christ in their daily lives, and our Pastor to be active in the lives of our families — the joy of weddings, baptisms, through the pain of death and in life's struggles.
- The Old Stone Church houses a volunteer food pantry that serves Rockton, Roscoe, Shirland, and South Beloit every Thursday morning from 9-11 a.m.
- A Grief Group meets on the first and third Wednesdays of the month at 10:30 a.m. It's for anyone who has lost a loved one and is looking for a group to help work through that grief.
- We have an amazing music program: a vocal choir and a handbell choir.
- The church is available for civic, self-help groups, and other meetings and engagements. We have spaces large and small.
